Is it bourbon time yet?

A Tale of Two Cheez Snacks

This weekend, as I continue to battle the beast of AVN nominations, I set out to give my tastebuds a little adventure in the requisite snacking portion of the proceedings.

First up, on Saturday, I snagged the bag to the left of beer cheese flavored Cheez-Its. This honestly was on  a whim, because I saw them, and I don't know that I've ever seen a beer-flavored snack before, so I felt I just had to know what that tasted like. And not just any beer, mind you, but Coors Light specifically. Would the Rocky Mountain effervescence shine through? Was this just an insane concoction some dudes at the Cheez-It factory threw together during a late-night Coors Light bender? I soon would find out. I do know that beer cheese is something I've enjoyed in the past, so it didn't seem entirely off the wall.

Well, I'm happy to report that the Coors Light Cheez-Its were quite enjoyable. I wouldn't call them the best Cheez-Its ever, but I also wouldn't throw them out. The beer taste is there, very mildly, but if you fancy a good beer cheese, these will not disappoint you.

Then for today's selection, we have The Flavor of Fear Cheetos—something I actually went seeking out. More precisely, the flavor is dubbed "Sweet Phantom Heat."

Here's what the packaging says about these: "Cheetos brought in Blumhouse, the studio behind some of the biggest horror films in Hollywood, to create a flavor that will haunt your tastebuds and get under your skin." Also, it notes, the taste is "sweet ... until the heat finds you."

Why is a movie studio creating a Cheetos flavor? Well, cross-promotion, of course, but did anybody from Blumhouse actually sit down and formulate a flavor with the Cheetos chefs? Couldn't tell you ... all I know is that I like horror, I like Cheetos, I like sweet things as well as spicy things, and I have been intrigued to give these a whirl.

Well, I can assure you with no pause whatsoever that what these cheesy poofs promise is exactly what they deliver. The first bite offers a delightful, cinnamony burst of sweetness, which lingers pleasingly on your tongue until quite a few beats later ... when suddenly, you are bitten with the sting of hot, hot fire. So hot. So fiery.

And yet delicious.

I don't know how these Cheetos/Blumhouse talisman pulled off this wicked trick, but so long as you have a tolerance for hot stuff, I recommend thoroughly.

OK, that's my snack report. Back to the porno.
